“It’s a Hooch dog!”
Yes, it is! No, they do not drool quite as “Hooch” does; but they do drool. Our dogues drink their water outside so when they have shoelaces draping down their jowls and they are looking for the nearest pant leg to wipe it on; we are not as easily accessible.
I tell new puppy buyer all the time, once you have a Bordeaux you will never be without one. It makes me so happy to hear from past puppy buyers that they would like another.
This breed is truly like no other. All dogs take time and training in order to learn right and wrong and to become a polite member of your family and the canine community; but in my experience the Dogue is especially interested in you and your needs.
Bordeaux’s are extremely loyal and insanely perceptive. They are quick to learn and eager to please. For us they have been especially easy to potty train!
I know it seems like a cliché to say that they are great with kids…but I have seen it with my own eyes. Our dogues have “raised” our little girl, and although she is never left alone with them; I trust them completely with her. She learned how to walk by pulling herself up on the nearest collar and wobbling along with one of the dogues. Even the puppies of this breed react differently to children and babies.
The Dogue de Bordeaux is described as having a “high tolerence threshold”. This means that it generally takes quite a bit to get them agitated or excited. Most Bordeaux’s are the type of dog to sit back and survey their surroundings, and they very rarely bark. They watch intently before they act. That is NOT to say they won’t act, because if a strange person were to enter our yard or our house…my money is on the dogue!
The Dogue de Bordeaux will capture you hearts and soul. No matter how big the yard-most Bordeaux’s can be found on the couch or in the bed.
